Do I need a videographer for my wedding?

The short answer. No, you don’t need a wedding videographer. But if you want to relive how your wedding actually felt, and not just how it looked, then most couples later realise it’s one of the best decisions they made.

Is a wedding videographer worth it?

As a wedding videographer we’re typically one of the first suppliers to be booked or the last… There’s no single right way to plan a wedding, but couples who value memories over aesthetics rarely regret booking a videographer. If you’re on the fence let’s have a look at why all of my previous couples who had one would say it was the best decision they made when planning their wedding.

What does a documentary wedding videographer actually capture?

A true to life time capsule - your wedding will go by in a flash (I’m sorry). Having a videographer present ensures you can relive all of those emotions you felt throughout every part of the day.

Capturing friends and family at that stage of life - Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, small children. It’s amazing to look back at your wedding video in years to come, to see how people have changed from then to now. Having the video of grandparents, for example, is priceless.

Seeing moments you missed - there’s a lot going on at a wedding, especially with guests. A candid wedding videographer like me is striving to capture shots of everything happening whilst you may not be present in that group.

Sharing your day with others online - I’d hope you’d have your full length Feature Film on repeat at home, but it’s intimate and this is why I offer a Trailer Film which is easily shared with friends and family online.

See how I hit all of these points by having a look at my portfolio of wedding films.

Will a videographer add pressure on the day?

With me, no it will not.

“we were sceptical about having a videographer as we were nervous about feeling additional pressure on the day, but we absolutely think it was the best money we spent on our wedding day!

- Anna & Ryan, Secret Garden May 2025

“Getting a videographer was one of the decisions that is hard in wedding planning, and could be seen as a “nice to have” but I promise you, it was the best decision…

Dave is a brilliant person to have as part of your day and fit right in amongst our guests, we are so glad we picked Dave as our videographer!”

- Laura & Tom, Brook Farm Cuffley July 2025

What if a wedding videographer isn’t in the budget?

Just an experienced suggestion - If you’re considering a wedding videographer but the budget just isn’t allowing it, ask what you could compromise on other parts of your day, such as reducing your budget for wedding flowers, wedding favours or the cake?

If you’re unsure whether wedding videography is right for you, watching a full wedding film rather than just a highlight reel usually answers the question far better than any blog post.

If you’re unsure whether wedding videography is right for you, watching a full wedding feature film rather than just a highlight or trailer reel usually answers the question far better than any blog post.
